Wednesday’s Giveaway: 2 Weeks of Classes from Yoga Monkey

Today we are giving away…

Two Weeks of Classes (a $40 value)

from Yoga Monkey

Did you know that the American Heart Association recommends that children and adolescents engage in physical activity for at least 60 minutes per day?  Source.  With the rise of obesity and diabetes among children in our country, making sure that our children are physically fit is more important (and more challenging) now than ever before.

Now, one activity that I really enjoy personally is yoga; my 3 year old will do it right beside me!  Kids love yoga, so I was excited to hear about Yoga Monkey moving in to Sun Kids Studio.

The friendly Master Monkeys at Yoga Monkey have taught yoga classes specifically tailored to kids since 2009, bringing together their experience and training in yoga, teaching, fitness, and child development to create classes that are intellectually and physically engaging.  Plus, they’re fun!

Yoga monkeys learn the importance of strength, attention, and focus – all central to yoga practice (and life generally!) – in an environment that’s safe and supportive through Yoga Monkey’s use of traditional gentle yoga practices.

Yoga Monkey offers gentle yoga classes for children ages 4-10, plus yoga and meditation classes for teens.  Classes are located at Sun Kids Studio at 816 S. Tejon.  Here’s what I got excited about:  Sun Kids Studio is a part of Sun Pilates Studio, which offers all kinds of classes for adults at the same time as the children’s classes.  Busy parents can enjoy yoga, reiki, pilates, and more while their children are practicing yoga at the same time (even on weekends)!

Beginning on October 30, Yoga Monkey will also offer a teacher training program.  This 95 hour certificate course certifies people to become children’s yoga instructors!

Yoga Monkey is giving away two weeks of classes, a $40 value.  This can be used for either children’s yoga or youth yoga or meditation classes.

Donna’s Dolphins Swim School is opening a brand new location on Research and Powers in early September!  Here’s a little update on the progress from Miss Donna:

Thursday’s Giveaway: Private Swim Lesson at Donna’s Dolphins Swim School

Today we are giving away…

A Free Private Lesson and Swim Bag (a $40 value)

from Donna’s Dolphins Swim School

My daughter is LOVING her lessons at Donna’s Dolphins Swim School, and I am LOVING all of the new skills she is learning!  Every week, she has a new breakthrough.  I am constantly impressed by Miss Donna’s talents with teaching.  For example, when Claire was hesitant to put her face underwater, Miss Donna brought out a hula hoop to float in the water, and placed a few floating fish inside the hoop.  She asked Claire to catch the fish with a little net, but the only way to do it was to duck her head under the hula hoop first!  Skills like that only come from years of experience.

A note from Miss Donna and her staff:

Our warm, creative, well-educated staff can teach any student how to enjoy swimming and more importantly, how to be safe in and around water! Our program is fun, effective and yields fast results, and is always customized to each student. Whether you are looking for beginning-level instruction or improving your stroke technique for your next triathlon, Donna’s Dolphins will be able to help you!

New families are always welcome to come view our facility and view our teaching technique – make an appointment to visit us today!

There is no shortage of positive testimonials about Donna’s Dolphins Swim School!

“Our family had a wonderful experience with Donna’s Dolphins. We’ve tried group lessons before but we always walked away disappointed with the results and efforts of the instructors. Our two daughters (ages 5 and 7) had a great experience with Donna. They were both very comfortable and the improvement in their swimming over the ten lessons was remarkable. We are now very comfortable with the ability of our daughters to swim and to be safe around water. We look forward to beginning another set of lessons soon.”

Wednesday’s Giveaway: Private Lesson & Bag from Donna’s Dolphins Swim School

Today we are giving away…

A Private Lesson and Swim Bag (a $40 value)

from Donna’s Dolphins Swim School

My 3-year old daughter, Claire, had her first private lesson at Donna’s Dolphins last week.  It went SO well!  Claire has very little experience with swimming; she’s happy to go in the pool, being carried around by an adult, but is hesitant to put her face under the water.

Miss Donna put Claire right at ease by making the lesson relaxed and fun.  The water was a comfortable 92 degrees, and Donna started by carrying Claire around the pool for a few minutes, showing her all of the fun toys and giving Claire a chance to talk a bit (her favorite activity).  Next, Claire had a chance to practice blowing bubbles through a straw and then work on her kicking. By the end of the 30-minutes, Miss Donna had Claire putting her eyes and ears under the water and attempting to float on her back.

I am confident that my little girl will be swimming by the end of her 10-lesson program!

Miss Donna

I have been teaching this wonderful, loving and very efficient method of swimming for over 27 years. I have worked in many private swim clubs and have owned and operated 2 schools. We are very happy to be at our current location here in the Northgate area of Colorado Springs, Colorado. I’ve been a competitive swimmer since the age of eight through college.

I enjoy teaching advanced techniques to children at an early age so they too will have that competitive edge and skill level to go on to swim teams if they choose to do so. We have an indoor pool that is 16×32 feet and kept at a comfortable 90 degrees! Infants to adults all love it (Miss Donna loves it too!). Come visit the swim school to see our comfortable and loving atmosphere!

Stay tuned to learn all about the new Donna’s Dolphins location opening very soon at Research and Powers!

Does it sound too good to be true?  Well, it’s not!  Here are a couple testimonials from past students and their families:

“Jordan is so-o-o excited about the progress she is making!  And of course, her parents and grandparents are so relieved and pleased that you have been able to bring out her confidence and enjoyment of the swimming experience!  We are all thankful for the special gifts God has given you to share with your students and for the significant blessing of safety and fun swimming experiences you bring to each of your students.  Thank-you for being a tremendous encourager to Jordan and so many other special kiddos!” -Ann Saunders

“”Before meeting Donna, our 5-year-old son, Ben, had no intention of putting his head in the water – despite having taken two sets of lessons elsewhere.  I was skeptical whether he would do it for Donna, either.  Imagine my shock when on his very first lesson, Ben was underwater, picking up toy sea animals from the shallow end of her pool.  Now, after three sets of lessons with Donna, he’s swimming the length of her pool, jumping in the deep end and loving every minute of it.  He asks constantly when he can go see “Miss Donna” again.  Donna has made the experience fun, not frightening for our little guy”.  – Cary Leider Vogrin

BONUS Giveaway! Summer Family Outdoor Health & Safety Gear

Today we are giving away…

An AquaJogger Junior (a $24.95 value),

a SportBrella XL (a $69.99 value),

and a SportBrella Chair (a $39.99 value)

Welcome, new readers from Fox21!  You discovered Colorado Springs Giveaways on a great day.  I’m giving away three awesome products to enjoy outdoors this summer, along with a gift certificate from Heather Eslinger with Arbonne.

First, I want to show you a few fun products that will have you enjoying the great outdoors with your family this summer.  Maybe you like to grill out on the patio for dinner every night.  If the mosquitoes are driving you back inside, though, you may consider trying a ThermaCELL Outdoor Insect-Repellent Lantern ($31.99).

“The Patio Lantern is both a powerful insect repellent device and a functional and portable, long-lasting outdoor LED lantern, with both functions being usable separately or together”. It repels mosquitoes within a 15 x 15 foot area and is 98% effective! It is also non-toxic, safe and non-intrusive, being DEET-free, silent, portable and odor free.

For kiddos age 3 and up, the Aquajogger Junior ($24.95) can help children learn how to swim, have fun, and get exercise.

“The Aquajogger Junior is worn like a belt and comfortably suspends the child wearing it at shoulder level in deep water allowing her/him to breathe normally and move freely while performing a wide variety of water activities”.  It’s secure, adjustable, and comfortable.  Older kids can add the in-water exercise equipment, including dumbbells and leg weights.  The Aquajogger Junior includes a Splash Club Handbook with water games, swimming tips, and safety information.

When you spend the day outdoors with the family, you’ll have a lot more fun if you can find a way to avoid excessive sun, wind, and rain.  The SportBrella XL ($69.99) will protect you from all three with it’s domed shape, side flaps, and 125 SPF.  This umbrella can be set up in just 3 seconds and will fit the entire family at 9 feet wide!

“Includes top wind vents, side zippered windows for efficient airflow and additional visibility, internal pockets for gear and valuables, convenient carry bag and tethers/ground stakes for use when necessary for additional stability”.

My husband and I actually went shopping at a camping store last weekend, and we didn’t see any chairs come close to this one!  The SportBrella Chair ($39.99) conveniently folds into a compact carry bag.

The attached 360 degree swivel umbrella can be placed on either side of the chair and swivels to provide protection from sun and wind at any conceivable angle.  The umbrella opens out to 46 inches wide and offers a SPF of 50+.  As if that wasn’t enough, the SportBrella Chair also has a cupholder, bottle opener, and item pouch.

Keep those little guys safe this summer with the Safety Turtle Wireless Wristband Alarm ($235).  It’s an “ingenious combination of wireless signal-outfitted wristband and a wireless base station receiver that sounds an alarm the instant a child falls or ventures into water”.  The base station can be placed up to 200 feet away.

“The Safety Turtle personal immersion alarm is an effective last line of defence to protect your child against water accidents.  An alarm sounds at the base station the instant he or she falls or ventures into the water”.

This weekend on Colorado Springs Giveaways, we are giving away a SportBrella XL (a $69.99 value).

Visit my Facebook page on Friday evening, where I’ll be giving away an Aquajogger Junior (a $24.95 value) and a SportBrella Chair ($39.99), LIVE to Facebook fans!

Thursday’s Giveaway: Free Private Lesson & Swim Bag from Donna’s Dolphins

Today we are giving away…

A 30-minute Private Swim Lesson

and a Swim Bag (a $40 value)

from Donna’s Dolphins Swim School

A few weeks ago, I posted a status on my personal Facebook account asking friends if they had any recommendations for local swim lessons.  Everyone said that I needed to check out Donna’s Dolphins.  Friends shared anecdotes of their children taking lessons elsewhere for entire seasons with hardly any results, then progressing in leaps and bounds after only a couple lessons with Donna and her staff.

I had to see it for myself.  I visited Donna’s school and watched two 3-year olds taking their lessons.  WOW, those kids could really swim!  Their 30 minutes were action-packed, as the kids listened to and followed a variety of commands and corrections.  These young kids looked comfortable, confident, and perhaps the most important part…they were having FUN!

With 27 years of experience, our soft touch method, swim/roll/float/swim, and the availability of private lessons produces results in weeks not years!

Children have natural abilities in the water and are drawn to it; however, as they get older, fear of the water can develop due to negative past experiences and/or the depth.  Other programs are not as well developed because they require the use of motor skills that a child acquires around the age of 4 or 5, but at Donna’s Dolphins, children of all ages are able to obtain fundamental skills which may save their life.  With this there is a sense of self accomplishment that is achieved through positive reinforcement and never saying “NO” to a challenge, but rather “I will try”.

Lifesaving skills are integrated in our curriculum from lesson one.  Each student is taught how to jump in the deep end of our pool and get into a starfish back float and how to jump in and turn around back to the wall.

Each lesson is custom adapted for your child!  ALWAYS!

I’m excited to start my daughter, age 3, at Donna’s Dolphins next week.  I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes!  In the meantime, I thought I would share a couple testimonials (out of dozens!):

“Donna, we cannot thank you enough for providing such a great school with a wonderful technique.  In just 10 lessons Kate (4 yrs old) went from not letting go of an adult in the pool, to swimming from one side to the other by herself.  She enjoys the water now instead of being intimidated by it.   Thanks for the kindness and optimism you showed to Kate and our family throughout.  We’ll be back with our youngest child in the near future!” ~Sincerely, Penny S.

“Donna’s Dolphins swim lessons far exceeded my expectations.  When Donna told me my child would be swimming after 10 lessons, I was skeptical.  But on lesson number 8, my son swam half the length of her pool all by himself!  She has a way with kids that makes them do things you wouldn’t expect they’d do without a fight, like putting their full face under water.  On the first lesson, Donna gently coaxed my son into doing it and he didn’t fuss at all.  Donna is well worth the investment to have piece of mind that your child will know how to swim after 10 lessons.”
— Sharon Nolan, son – Brendan is 4 1/2

Monday’s Giveaway: Summer Camp at Play it Now Sports

Today we are giving away…

Summer Camp (a $99 value)

from Play it Now Sports

It’s summer…time for the kids to RUN and JUMP and PITCH and SPIKE and KICK!

Play it Now Sports just opened earlier this year with 45,000 square feet at 5025 N. Academy Blvd.  There’s plenty of room for indoor baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball.  Today, we’re giving away a summer camp to one lucky reader, a $99 value.

Why choose Play it Now Sports for your kids’ summer camps?  “No weather cancellations (it’s all indoors), great pricing, all-day camps, different dates, multiple ages and maximum fun”, that’s why!

At Play it Now Sports, we offer kids leagues for multiple sports. Organized teams, volunteer coaches, 6 seasons throughout the year, leagues for different days of the week, ages 4-14, incredible facility, great location, restrooms, concesssions, free parking, bleachers, cafe seating area, and it’s all indoors. Just choose your favorite sport to play.

Now, here is what I love about Play it Now Sports.  Do you find yourself driving all over town, rushing to get kids to practices and games?  Siblings can all play their chosen sports at the same time and place, thanks to Play it Now Sports.

I completely agree with the Play it Now Sports philosophy:

One factor we have noticed over the years is that a lot of kids get burned out at an early age by their parents pushing them too hard to get “good” by being competitive.  While there is nothing wrong with being competitive in sports and pushing kids to be their best we feel that especially with younger kids (4-10 year olds)  a simpler “let’s have fun” approach can be beneficial.  Kids at those ages are just learning motor skills (how to kick a ball, throwing, catching, shooting, etc) and the goal is for them to have fun so that when they do get a little older they still enjoy playing.  Then as the kids do get older the competition and winning is an added dimension that becomes special to the game that they now love to play.

Monday’s Giveaway: 6 Free Classes from Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids {CLOSED}

Today we are giving away…

6 Free Classes (a $78 value)

from Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids

Have you heard of Lil’ Kickers yet?  They are one of my favorite local organizations to feature on Colorado Springs Giveaways, so if you’ve been reading for a while, you’ve probably seen my blog posts about them.  For all of my new readers, I thought I would tell you a little bit more about their program in general.

Step onto the field during any Lil’ Kickers class and you will find it transformed into a world created just for your child. Our well trained coaches will thrill your child with 50 minutes of highly creative, high energy and age-appropriate activities that serve as a great introduction to soccer, and help children master developmental milestones, appropriate for their age.

Do you have a birthday coming up in your family?  Rather than attempt to corral and entertain a group of little kids on your own, turn to the professionals!  Lil’ Kickers parties are great for kids age 2 to 9.

Your child will have a blast bouncing off the walls at our house.  Let us do the work while you have the fun.  With hundreds of age-appropriate Lil’ Kickers games to choose from and our high energy coaches you can’t go wrong.  Our party packages include 50 minutes of field time, a party room and a host to handle every detail.  Call your local facility and schedule your fun today.

My little girl just finished her first season with Lil’ Kickers.  She loved it!  She’s only 2, so although I loved the long naps she always took after a morning at Lil’ Kickers, I think the biggest benefit she received was an improvement in her listening skills.  She’s used to listening to (or not listening to) me all day, so to take direction from her coaches was new for her.  They did a great job of making the sessions fun and imaginative for even the youngest kids.

Whether your child is new to soccer or has already developed a love for the game, the progressive nature of Lil’ Kickers offers a place for children at every level. Our convenient class times provide families options to accommodate multiple children and busy schedules.

Lil’ Kickers offers a FREE trial class for new students.  There’s no commitment; just come by and check it out!  Plus, classes are pro-rated so you can join anytime, even if it is the middle of a season.

Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids is giving away 6 free classes to one lucky winner.  This is a $78 value!

Thursday’s Giveaway: 6 Soccer Classes from Lil’ Kickers

Today we are giving away…

Six Soccer Classes (a $78 value)

from Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids

“We don’t just teach soccer to kids…we use soccer as a tool to teach kids about life”.

My daughter just finished her first season with Lil’ Kickers.  She is 2 years old.  I’ll admit, before we attended her first class, I never thought that I would be enrolling her in organized sports this young.  I had visions of overzealous parents yelling from the sidelines as these little toddlers struggle to learn skills and rules that are over their heads.

I was entirely wrong!  All of the classes at Lil’ Kickers are non-competitive, and for the littlest kids, parents participate throughout the entire class.  They teach fundamental skills using age-appropriate activities.  And most importantly?  It’s fun.

I’ll highlight a few of the skills that my little girl learned this season.

1.  Listening Skills:  At our first class, I was a little nervous because my daughter didn’t seem to pay attention to the coaches at all.   She just wanted to run around and do her own thing.  Now, she wasn’t perfect by the end of the season, but there was a noticeable improvement.  I no longer had to repeat each of the coach’s instructions.

2.  Fundamental Skills:  Claire learned how to kick the ball into the net, how to run while kicking a soccer ball, and some very basic rules of the game (for example, that you don’t throw the ball with your hands).  By being immersed in this environment, she was exposed to the game of soccer in a fun way.  They also worked on vocabulary such as colors and action phrases.

3.  Exercise:  These classes include 50 minutes of high energy instruction.  The kids are running around, using their imaginations, for nearly the entire time (with breaks, of course!).  Claire always took a good nap on soccer day :)

If you’ve never been to a Lil’ Kickers class before, I encourage you to check it out.  You can attend a trial class for FREE to see what it’s like.  Visit the Lil’ Kickers website for class schedules, locations, and other information.  Even if it’s the middle of the season, it’s not too late to join.

Tuesday’s Giveaway: Personal Training Sessions from 31:17 Training

Today we are giving away…

A Fitness Assessment and

Three 50-minute Personal Training Sessions

(a $165 value)

from 31:17 Training

I am the type of person who sets New Year’s Resolutions.  They usually follow a similar theme:  eat better, exercise regularly, lose those last few pounds of baby weight.  Judging by the crowd at my gym in January, I don’t think I’m alone here.

By the time March rolls around, there’s no longer a wait for equipment at the gym.  Many of us have forgotten or given up on our lofty goals of just a few months ago.  Now is a great time to get a new shot of motivation from a professional.  Brenda Kneifel of 31:17 Training is an NASM Certified Personal Trainer.  Brenda offers whole body education, from basic nutrition to cooking classes to individual, couple, or group fitness sessions.

I’d like to share some excerpts from Brenda’s recent article published by the Colorado Springs Examiner titled “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Losers”.

7.  Find a community of support.  You need support at home (when temptations creep in), and at the gym (when motivation fades).

6.  PLAN!  If you don’t have a plan, you will fail.  My best advice in this area is to start a blog.  Make it something public so you have others keeping you accountable.  Also, plan your days off (I typically recommend two days of rest).

5.  Write it down!  Every single thing that you put in your mouth needs to be written down.  You will be shocked at how much mindless eating you do throughout the day.

4.  Drink water!  No, I’m not talking about your venti Starbucks.  I’m talking about good ol’ fashioned water.  Keep a Nalgene or large water bottle with you at all times and make it a goal to drink your weight in water every day.  This keeps you sated, alert, and aids in digestion and detoxification.

3.  Clean out the cupboards!  We all have willpower, yet we all have moments of weakness.  Plan for those moments of weakness and get the junk you know you shouldn’t eat out of the house.

2.  Sleep.  Statistically, adults within a healthy weight range allow themselves 7-9 hours of sleep per night.  Why is this?  When you’re tired, you’re zapped of both energy and willpower.  Ever tried to work out on a terrible night’s sleep?  It’s counterproductive.

1.  Eat breakfast.  Skipping breakfast is one of the most common themes among overweight people.  Protein and fat are the best blood sugar regulators and will keep you full and sated throughout your day, and avoid those blood sugar lows people often fall victim to in the afternoon.

Special Discount for CSG Readers:  Brenda is offering two for the price of one for one month.  Sign up with a friend and split the cost!  Mention “Colorado Springs Giveaways” to receive the discount.

Thursday’s Giveaway: Lil’ Kickers Soccer Classes {CLOSED}

Today we are giving away…

Six Soccer Classes (a $78 value)

from Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids

I’ve been taking my daughter to soccer classes at Lil’ Kickers for a couple months now.  She has fun, I love to see her smile, and the best part…she always takes a great nap afterward!  I thought I would share a little bit about the Lil’ Kickers philosophy today.

Our well trained coaches will thrill your child with 50 minutes of highly creative, high energy and age-appropriate activities that serve as a great introduction to soccer, and help children master developmental milestones, appropriate for their age.

Because Lil’ Kickers is first and foremost a child development program our purpose is really to help children mature on all levels. Our program focuses on helping children build a strong physical, intellectual and emotional skills that will help them be successful on and off the soccer field.

Monday’s Giveaway: 6 Soccer Classes from Lil’ Kickers

Today we are giving away…

Six Soccer Classes (a $78 value)

from Lil’ Kickers Soccer for Kids

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

When you walk into a Lil’ Kickers location, it sounds like a Brazil vs. Argentina soccer game.  Kids are yelling, parents cheering, coaches, um, coaching.  It’s a lot of fun.

Although Lil’ Kickers offers soccer classes for kids age 18 months to 9 years, I thought I’d tell you a bit about my daughter’s experience today.

Claire is 2 years old and attends a “Thumpers” class once a week.  She puts on her adorable little uniform in the morning and can’t stop talking about soccer all day.  The classes are 50-minutes long and contain several mini-activities that last about 5-10 minutes each.  It’s not like we’re trying to get these little guys to actually play a soccer game.  Instead, the coaches invite them to use their imagination.  Without even realizing it, the kids are getting exercise and learning new skills.

My favorite part is the obstacle course.  The kids are jumping, crawling, kicking, and perhaps most importantly, waiting their turn.  That’s not easy for a 2-year old.

For the first class that we attended, Claire had some difficulty with listening.  She would often wander off and do her own thing while the other kids did what the coaches asked of them.  Now, only three classes later, I’ve noticed a huge difference.  She loves getting high-fives from the coach for a job well done.  She may not feel any need to do it quickly, but we’re working on that :) .

Tuesday’s Giveaway: Women’s Bootcamp Fitness (closed)

Today we are giving away…

One Week of Bootfcamp (a $49 value)

from Women’s Bootcamp Fitness

When it comes to exercising to get fit, you have a variety of options.  You might start by walking or jogging around your neighborhood, but break the habit during snowy weather.  Next, you sign up for a gym membership.  Working out by yourself on a treadmill is boring, so you stop going after a few weeks in spite of the continuing membership dues.

Here’s another idea.  Join Women’s Bootcamp Fitness.  You’ll receive personalized training alongside other women with similar goals.  Let me introduce you to Joe Ramirez, the motivator behind Women’s Bootcamp Fitness:

Joe won “Best Trainer” in the Gazette Best of Colorado Springs 2010.  He’s  an innovative personal trainer and weight loss coach with 18 years of experience in the fitness industry.

“The key to your fitness success lies in a progressive lifestyle transformation combining exercise adherence, behavioral modification, and nutrition coaching. By helping you embrace gradual and progressive improvements, you will experience a total lifestyle transformation for permanent and lasting weight loss success.”

You can check out Joe’s website for dozens of testimonials, but I thought I would share one of them:

“I was a 43-year old mother of 3. I was soft, tired, and felt…dumpy. I was running and lifting on my own, but was not seeing any changes in my body or my energy level.  I was getting nowhere in my workouts and needed a boost. It was time to make myself a higher priority in my life. Joe taught me how to workout for maximum efficiency. He made sure I was lifting with correct form and how to do the exercises correctly (I had been doing almost every one wrong).

He instructed me on proper nutrition. I soon started to see and feel REAL RESULTS…those sculpted arms started to show!  My body fat has dropped from 25% to 14.5% and I have lost 4 sizes.I am now 45 years old and look and feel better than before I had my kids!

Pam M. 45, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Here are some of the benefits you’ll receive with their award winning boot camp fitness and nutrition program:
