CSA season is in full swing! I love summer in Colorado. And I really love the concept of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA, for short). Basically, individuals and families purchase a share of a local farm at the beginning of the season, thus sharing both the risk and abundance. Each week, a variety of veggies, fruit, bread, flowers, eggs, or whatever you sign up to receive, arrives at a location near your home. What a fun way to experiment with new recipes and enjoy amazing, organic, Colorado-grown food!
We’ve been considering getting backyard chickens for a couple years (we’re just afraid to make the leap and build a coop!). If that’s one of your latest projects, consider Grant Family Farm’s “adopt a hen” program. The farm rescues a lot of their laying hens from large-scale, industrial (and organic) operations that discard their hens when they fall below 80% efficiency.
Because they are unable to keep these hens for the duration of their lives, they offer them up for adoption to people like you! You’ll enjoy the benefit of having hens that lay eggs right away, instead of waiting for 6 months as you would with chicks.
Or, if raising backyard chickens isn’t really your thing, take advantage of the Grant Family Farms pasture-raised egg shares, available all summer long.
One lucky winner will receive a “Taste of Grant Family Farms CSA” package including a Medium Veggie Share, Single Fruit Share, and a Dozen Eggs to pick up at a location near you the week of your choice. Available any week between now and November 26.
